Thinking About Your Reading

 

  1. How does the beginning of the book keep your interest?

  2. How does the author keep you interested?

  3. Why did the author choose the title?

  4. Where does the story take place?  Describe the place.

  5. When did the story take place?  What clues in the story make you think so?

  6. Could there be a setting like the one in your book?  Do you know a place like this?

  7. Who are the main characters?  What kind of people are they?

  8. Why are the characters important to the story?

  9. Do any of the characters change during the story?  Tell how.

  10. Was the behavior of a particular character right or wrong?

  11. Which character would you like to be and why?

  12. Write about your character.

  13. What happened in the story?  Write the sequence of events.

  14. What might have happened if a certain action had not taken place?

  15. What was the saddest / funniest event in the story?

  16. What was the most exciting or unusual event in the story?

  17. Write about your favorite part of the story?

    1. How did you feel while reading this part of the book? 

    2. How did the author make you feel the way you did?

  18. Were you able to predict the ending?  What other way might the story have ended?

  19. Under headings such as people, animals, places, things, list important words from the story.

  20. What special words does the author use to help you see, smell, taste, or hear things?

  21. Why do you think the author wrote the story?

  22. Give some of your ideas you would like to write about for your Reading Logs or any ideas for different presentations (e.g. PowerPoint, Kidspiration, Hyperstudio, KidPix, etc.)
